Hoods

Explore our collection of handmade Viking hoods, reconstructed from 8th–11th century archaeological finds.

What type of hood did Vikings wear?

The most documented Viking hood shape comes from the Skjoldehamn find (Norway, c. 1000 AD) and the Hedeby find (Germany, c. 900 AD). These were close-fitting, sewn high under the throat, and made from wool. Our hoods are direct reconstructions of these archaeological examples.

How do you wear a Viking hood?

A Viking hood is worn pulled over the head with the face opening framing the face. The point hangs down the back or to the side. It can be worn alone or layered under a cloak for cold weather events.

Are Viking hoods good for outdoor reenactment?

Yes — wool has natural wind and water resistance, making Viking hoods excellent for outdoor historical events, LARP, and winter festivals. All our hoods are in stock and ship worldwide.
