Set - green woolen dress decorated with embroidery, tablet braid and hood for a Viking lady

Dress

Dress made from green wool (95 %). Fabric and tablet braid has been washed before sewing. Dress and hood should be hand washed in 30 C. Simple geometric cut based on a T shape, with a light undercut in the armpit. The cut of dress is based on found from Haithabu (Hedeby). The sleeves narrow towards the wrist. The dress has four wedges; one in the front, the back and one at each side. Every visible stitch is hand made with a linen thread, inside stitch are machine. Half circle undercut under the neck with split. In front of the dress are two, large hand made embroideries made with woolen threads, sized 12 cm x 16 cm. Motif of embroidery comes from ornamented bed found in Oseberg. Dress bordered with hand made tablet braid, 100% wool.

Size: length of dress 139 cm, width under the armpit 48cm x2, width in belt 49 cm x 2, width in hips 55cm x 2,length from shoulder to belly bottom 44 cm, length of sleeves from arm to cuff 60 cm, width of sleeves 13 cm. Size of dress is similar for clothes size 38-40.

Hood

The shape of the hood is based on a find from Skjoldehamn on the Norwegian island Angoya. It's made with two rectangles sewn to each other on top of the head. In the front and back two square wedges were set in. Sewn high under the throat to protect from wind and cold. Hood made of dark green with lining of linen inside. The inside was sewn with a machine, every visible stitch is hand made with linen thread. Hood bordered with tablet braid 100% wool. Length of hood 65cm, wide 41 cm.
