What are Viking leg wraps?

Viking leg wraps, known as winningas, were long strips of wool wound spirally up the lower leg from ankle to knee. They provided warmth, protection, and kept trousers tucked in during travel and combat. Evidence for winningas comes from numerous Viking Age grave finds and pictorial sources.

How do you wrap Viking leg wraps?

Start at the ankle and wind the wool strip upward in a spiral, overlapping each layer slightly. Secure at the top with a tuck or tie. Our leg wraps are cut and finished for easy wrapping — each set includes a pair for both legs.

What are leg wraps made from?

Authentic winningas were made from woven wool. All Othala Craft leg wraps are made from 100% natural wool in historically documented patterns: diamond twill, herringbone, and tabby weave.
