Head Bands
Discover our handmade Viking and Slavic headbands, reconstructed from early medieval grave finds and sewn from silk and linen.
Did Viking women wear headbands?
Yes. Small pieces of fabric found near the temples in Viking Age women's graves indicate the widespread use of headbands. They are documented in both Scandinavian and eastern Slavic finds, where Viking cultural influence is also visible. The headband was a practical and decorative element of early medieval women's costume, often made from silk or linen.
What is a Viking headband made from?
Historical Viking headbands were made from silk, linen or tablet-woven wool bands — sometimes with embroidery or decorative weaving. Our headbands are hand-sewn from silk and linen following patterns from Slavic and Scandinavian grave finds dating to the 9th–11th century.
How was a Viking headband worn?
A headband was worn across the forehead and tied at the back of the head or under the hair. Some versions had earflaps (small fabric extensions sewn to the sides) that framed the face and protected the ears. This style is particularly well-documented in eastern Slavic finds with Viking influence.
Are these headbands suitable for LARP and reenactment?
Yes. Our headbands are a popular accessory at historical festivals, reenactment events and LARP games. They complement tunics, dresses and hoods from our collection. All items are in stock and ready to ship worldwide.
