Woolen hat in diamond pattern with braid

Simple hat made of hand-woven wool (100%) in diamond pattern. Hat has four wedges. Every visible stitch is hand made with linen thread. Half lining of linen on the inside. The hat is bordered with blue wool also in a diamond pattern, plant dyed with indigo. The girth measured on the inside: Circumference measured on the inside: girth 62,5 cm (24,41 in), deep 21 cm (8,27 in). This type of cap is known from iconography from the Viking times. Based on fabric fragments, it can be deduced that this type of cap was known in Scandinavia and the Baltic countries during the early Middle Ages. It is an basic part of the Viking's outfit, it protected from the cold of the wind but also from the sun.
