Bags

Discover our handmade Viking and Slavic bags, reconstructed from historical iconography and archaeological sources. Practical, authentic, and hand-sewn from natural materials.

Did Vikings use bags?

Yes. Bags and pouches were an everyday item in Viking and early medieval Slavic life. They appear in both Scandinavian and Slavic iconographic sources — carried by warriors, travellers and traders. The most common form was a simple drawstring or flap bag worn over the shoulder or tied to a belt, used to carry food, water, tools or trade goods.

What is a Viking bimble bag?

The so-called bimble bag is a roomy shoulder bag documented in Viking Age and Slavic iconography. It was large enough to carry supplies for a day's travel — bread, a flask of water or wine, eating utensils. Our version is hand-sewn following historical proportions and construction, making it ideal for reenactment events and LARP.

What material are Viking bags made from?

Historical Viking and Slavic bags were most commonly made from leather or sturdy linen and wool fabric. All Othala Craft bags are hand-sewn from natural materials using period-accurate construction and finishing techniques.

Are these bags suitable for LARP and reenactment?

Yes. Our bags are designed for practical use at outdoor events, historical festivals and LARP games. They are functional, durable and historically accurate. All items are in stock and ready to ship worldwide.
