Woolen Viking dress with silk embroidery - VENDEL

Decorated Viking dress made of linen(100%) in dark red color. A rather thin linen, ideal for warm days, not see-through. Simple geometric cut based on a T shape, with small squares under the armpits. The sleeves narrow towards the wrist. The dress has two wedges; one at each side. Fabric has been washed before sewing. Inside stitches are machine, every visible stitches are made by hand. In front of the dress and on the cuffs are two large hand made embroideries, made with silk threads, sized 13 cm x 16 cm ( 5,12 in x 6,30 in). The threads used for embroidery are 100% silk. The zoomorphic embroidery motif comes from the decoration of a sword found in Vallstenraunm, Gotland. The sword is dated to the pre-Viking era( 650-700 CE) .
